MEET RYAN:
Ryan Christopherson, the CEO at Kimberbell and ME Time, and is the esteemed original Kimberfella! He has been deeply rooted in the journey of ME Time and Kimberbell from day one.
Read on for a few of Ryan's favorite things. Who knows - they might become your favorite things, too!
- What are some words of wisdom for a Kimberfella? When your favorite embroiderer is working on a project, it's best to stay out of the way and never question the cost. When asked, you always compliment her on her choice of fabrics. Consider working on a yard project or going for a drive. Follow these rules and you'll be fine 99% of the time.
- Favorite piece of advice you've ever received? My mother taught me to always put myself in the other person's shoes. It's helped me so much over the years.
- Favorite thing about machine embroidery? I'm mesmerized whenever I watch an embroidery machine doing a stitchout.
- Favorite podcast? I like to listen to the Mel Robbins podcast. She has great advice. Although, she does use a little salty language.
- Favorite movie? Groundhog Day. I love how the main character, Phil Conners, starts out as such a cynical, self-centered person and, after living the same day over and over, comes to realize that self-awareness, kindness, and serving others is the way to happiness.
- Favorite book of all time? This is impossible for me to answer! I always have a few books going from a variety of genres. There's too many to pick a favorite.
- Favorite recent book? I recently finished Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach. It was one of those "right book at the right time" things for me. Also, my mom has gotten me started on the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny and I've been enjoying reading them and discussing the plots and characters with her.
- Favorite fabric designer? Kimberbell!
- Favorite music/musician/album to listen to during your ME Time? It really depends on my mood, but when I want to relax and concentrate I like Novo Amor. I also love Max Richter's album "Recomposed" which is his take on Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons". I can find something I like in just about any genre of music.
- Favorite ice cream flavor? Mint Chocolate Chip
- Favorite Soda? Good old fashioned Coca-Cola. I don't think anything could be better than a cold Coke on a hot summer day.
- Favorite comfort food? I love a good grilled cheese sandwich. Pair it with a bowl of creamy tomato soup, a glass of milk, and a crackling fireplace and I'll feel right at home.
- Favorite place you’ve visited? My favorite place I've visited is Kauai. The tropical island environment is so different from the dry, high-mountain desert of Utah, where I grew up. Looking out my window and seeing the beach, palm trees, and the ocean is a different world from seeing towering mountains, pine trees, and snow - although each is beautiful in their own way.
- Favorite candy? Hot Tamales or about anything that combines chocolate and caramel.
- Favorite project you've ever made? I took an oil painting class with my grandmother when I was about 14. I painted a lighthouse and ocean over the course of a few Saturday morning sessions. I was very proud of it and loved spending time with my grandma. I think my favorite part was that we would stop for hamburgers on the drive home and talk and laugh. It's a great memory for me.
- Favorite move quote? "Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Forrest Gump
- Favorite historical figure? I can't say I really have one, but I have been fascinated by Nikola Tesla.
- Favorite fabric store? Any store that carries Kimberbell.
- Favorite gift you’ve ever given - or received? When I turned 50, my wife, Kim, presented me with a video with recorded video messages from several dozen family and friends that I'd known over the years. It was great to see so many people that I had not been in touch with and hear their well wishes. She had been working on it for months. I felt very special.
- Favorite breed of cat or dog(or other pet)? We've had a little Snorkie (Schnauzer/Yorkie) for about 13 years. She's been a great dog, so I guess I have to say Snorkie. I also love Golden Retrievers.
- Favorite person to sew/craft with? My wife, Kim! My involvement is mostly looking over her shoulder and asking her questions about what she's doing until she gets annoyed.
- Favorite craft room organization tool? My needle nose pliers. I've found them indispensable for getting thread unwound from the vacuum brush roller. When you have an embroiderer in the house, it's almost inevitable that you're going to get a very bound up vacuum brush roller from time to time.
- Favorite season to decorate for? I like to take care of the yard, so I would have to say summer. I like planting containers and flower beds and keeping the yard tidy. I enjoy putting together a comfortable, welcoming deck and patio. I know it's not the traditional way to think of decorating, but it's what I enjoy the most.
