Make Your Own Delicious Sugar Plum Pops!

  • December 15, 2022
“The moment that sugar-sweet scent hits your nose
To the Candy Shop window you’ll hurriedly go
For a Sugar Plum Pop or a slice of Cream Cake
Such a scrumptious excursion, a happy heart makes”

Ever wonder what a Sugar Plum Pop tastes like? They’re a staple of the season in Holiday Village! Deliciously moist and perfectly bite-sized, these sweet treats will have you bursting with Christmas cheer in no time. Read on for the complete recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 3 eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½  teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½  teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 (4 ounce) jars plum or prune baby food
  • 1 can cream cheese or vanilla frosting
  • 1 12 oz package of candy melts in color of your choice
  • Cake pop/Lolly pop sticks
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine sugar and oil; mix in eggs and vanilla.
  2. Sift flour, spices, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl, then add, ½ the dry mixture to the sugar oil mixture, add the buttermilk, and then the rest of the flour mixture.
  3. Add baby food and mix well.
  4. Pour into a bundt pan that has been greased and floured. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour (or until the cake tester comes out clean).
  5. Let rest, in the pan, on a cooling rack for 20 minutes.
  6. Turn out to cool completely.
  7. Crumble cooled cake into a large bowl.
  8. Add frosting and stir with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until the mixture resembles crumbly wet sand but is not smooth.
  9. Use a small cookie scoop to portion out the cake mixture.
  10. Roll the mixture into smooth, 1-inch balls.
  11. Place the rolled balls on a lined plate or sheet pan. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or freeze for 30 minutes.
  12. Melt candy melts according to the package instructions. Dip about a ¼ inch of a lollipop stick in the melted chocolate (this will act like glue) and then insert the stick about halfway into a cake ball.
  13. Dip the cake ball into the chocolate. Remove and gently tap on the side of the cup to let excess coating drip off.
  14. Decorate with sprinkles if desired. Place upright and let stand until the coating is set.
  15. Enjoy!

Notes:

If you want to have perfectly round cake pops, but don’t have a stand, try poking holes in a clean piece of cardboard. Place your cake pop sticks in the holes to let them dry. Another option is styrofoam! If you don’t have any clean cardboard or styrofoam around the house, or aren’t worried about them being perfectly round, you can set them stick side up on a lined baking sheet. The tops will be flattened, but they’ll still taste delicious!
